Passport to Adventure!

Went down to the Post Office yesterday in Highlands Ranch to get Katherine's passport renewed. We got her one shortly after she was born, but it had expired. She's potentially taking a Grandma/Grandpa Camp trip down to Mexico this summer, so we needed to get it renewed. And if I ever get a business trip over to someplace interesting during the summer, it would be fun to take her along.

Alas, kids can't just send in for a renewal -- you actually have to go to a passport office, with a state-certified (not hospital) birth certificate, both parents (or an affidavit from the other), etc. Plus little photos, of course, and your checkbook. And, of course, there's a huge line, they're only open during "normal" business hours, and all sorts of etc. issues.

Still, we managed to get down there, and were only slightly thrown off by discovering that they'd created a new form as of 1 February that obsoleted the form we'd already filled out from the web. *sigh* Got that redone -- and, to be fair, the folks there were very cheerful and helpful, so we got that all done. She should have her new passport (and all the certification we gave them) back by mid-April. It'll be one of those newfangled "chipped" passports, but it'll get her back into the country, hopefully, without any problems.

Of course, I have my passport in hand, already checked out, for the trip. :-)
