Making a live-action Cowboy Bebop film could be very cool, if done right. We know noir, and SF, work in live-action. Heck, this makes me think of Fifth Element in some ways.
Similarly, making a sequel to Tron (Tr2n) has a lot of possibilities. Given a love for the material, it could be even excellent. The Tronverse was greatly unexplored, and it makes one wonder what's been going on there since. Makes me think of Prince Caspian, conceptually.
Making a remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, though? Utter disaster. TRHPS is epitomized by cheesiness and period shock value. It's lightning in a bottle, an unexpected cult classic. Makes me think of doing a remake of Monty Python and the Holy Grail ("Hey, we can cast Adam Sandler as Arthur, Will Farrell as Lancelot, Eddie Murphy as the Black Knight, and we need some famous French hunky guy to play the guy on the parapet -- who's in People this week?") -- not only is it utterly unnecessary, any imitation is bound to crash and burn and anything new and fresh enough to make it on its own will be so different that the name will be, at best, a distraction. Feh.
