Milestone

Today was (drum roll, please!) Katherine's first day in pre-school!

It's a couple-of-hours, couple-of-days-a-week program through the South Suburban Parks & Rec District.

Katherine had a blast, by all reports. She loves being around other kids, and seems to have taken to it like a duck to water.

And, of course, we have the obligatory Pre-Attendance Pictures of the First Day of (Pre-)School (First in a Many Year Series):

One of the bennies of the whole thing? The program does not allow pacifiers (and she evidently did just fine without one).

My little girl is growing up!

Quoth Marn, eh ...

Ah, the souce (that's what they're called here in Quebec) and yes, Jess had one too.

We convinced her to give hers up shortly before Christmas when she was 3 and a bit by saying that Santa needed it to give to another little girl. I know, that was wicked but it worked. We'd tried everything else and frankly I was starting to worry she'd be wearing it to her high school prom.

(You can't imagine my amazement when I first saw a gangsta rapper sporting a pacifier. Ye gods!)

Quoth *** Dave ...

I read the other day that pacifiers are common at raves because they help with the teeth-grinding that Ecstasy causes. That might be related to the source of the rapper sporting one.

Or maybe not. I was never part of The Scene when I actually had an opportunity to be so, let alone too many decades later.

Around our house, the pacifier is actually known as the "binky" (oddly enough, the TV remote is also called the "binky," probably for similar reasons). Katherine has turned this into "my dee-dee," and she uses hers often enough that she actually gets a rash on her chin from it (you can see a bit in the right-hand pic), which annoys me to no end.

If she's still "using" come next Christmas, I'll remember your suggestion.

Quoth Da Goddess ...

Hey, she's so busy she doesn't realize that she doesn't have it!

Yeah, that happens now and then. :-)
