Weighty Matters

Well, the Geek Diet is doing its thing:

  1. I'm more conscious again of when I'm just noshing-to-nosh, of additional snacks, and of balancing out things.

  2. I've dropped down to 208, which was just about where I was when I finished the last formal weight-tracking period (which started much higher then, of course).

Now the trick will be to see if I can punch past there and below 200.

Quoth Marn, eh ...

Kudos, ***Dave!

After a year of picking away at it, I finally broke the 160 pound barrier. My ideal weight (because I lift weights and I'm tall--5'9") is 150 pounds.

It's amazing how hard it is to shed those final few extra pounds. I've been maintaining my weight easily for over a year now, so I know once I hit goal my exercise/eating habits will keep me there. But oh, to find those last bits of self discipline to shake off those final eight pounds ...

40 down, 8 to go. Too bad I had to let it get that far out of control originally, eh?

Kudos to you, Marn!

Mercifully, I don't have that far to go. :-)

Quoth Elizabeth Ditz ...

After 2 weeks, I'm still liking CalorieKing a lot. I like the exercise tracking--it's motivational for me on 4 counts

1. I signed up for a sequential exercise program. I'm outdoing the program so far (a 10K in a few months)
2. It tracks the calorie count for the exercise, so if I want to eat something really yummy that's over my daily calorie count, I can "buy" it with extra exercise
3. I like to do a cycle. Suppose my daily calorie allowance is 1,200 calories. I do a 3-day cycle, so the 3 day total is 3,600. On day 1, I eat about 1,600 calories, on day 2 I do 1,200 calories, and on day 3 I do 800, and start again. This for me leads to more rapid weight loss and isn't a hardship, the way a straight 1,200 daily regimen can be. CalorieKing makes this easy.
4. It's the fastest tracker I've found.

I don't use a hand-held of any kind (I've tried....somehow it just doesn't work for me. I have to tote a fair amount of cards and other paper, so the daytimer is the best solution).

I have sworn off pounds, anyway, as the fat percentage is really where I need to go. The goal is lifelong fitness (there's a good new book out, Younger Next Year, by Crowley and Lodge, that's written for men but I found a lot of good thoughts there).

Also I want the consciousness of fat percentage (% body fat) being rammed into my daughter's brain. She's 2 inches shorter than I am, and got the Adams physique from my grandmother: generous bosom, tiny waist, big heiney--the Gibson Girl figure. If she gets into pound consciousness or inches consciousness, she is not going to feel good about herself. But having control over your lean muscle mass, now that is something.

I usually find it more convenient to enter stuff in at the PC than into the PDA version of BalanceLog, but it's convenient to have the latter option.

BL does have an exercise log in it, though I (cough) don't use it all that much.

There are certainly better body health measures than just weight, including some of the reasons you mention. I'm happy enough using it, though, since there are few more convenient.
