He's probably best known for "being" Fred Flintstone (since 1977), but his voice graced any number of cartoons and TV shows while I was growing up, including numerous villains and bit parts in Jonny Quest (which I've come to have nearly memorized, the DVDs being a favorite of Katherine's). And now Thurl Ravenscroft and Howard Morris have both died.
Howard Morris stands out less in my mind than Thurl Ravenscroft, but looking at his CV in IMDB was impressive.
Anybody who grew up watching Hanna-Barbera cartoons like Magilla Gorilla and Atom Ant would instantly recognize his voice. I'm sure you've seen him on TV shows, too, such as The Dick van Dyke Show.
Well, yes, the voices mentioned in the IMDB page are all noteworthy (and I can hear them in my head, too).
But compared to Thurl ... Or Henry ... :-)
NPR's All Things Considered did a story on Thurl today. They mentioned the All Things Thurl website.
Sorry I missed it. I'll have to check the website tomorrow.
The NPR article was quite nice, thanks.
Good article here, too.
