I'm getting more than a bit irked by airblogging.com, which seems to be now forwarding on about one out of five photos I send to it from my phone. Some of the ones I've "lost" ...
I haven't lost the pics -- they're right here on my phone -- but I'm sorely irked that the moment has been lost.
I really need to find an alternative, even if it means a compromise.

Well, I've been really happy with Flickr. It was a snap to set up. I still keep tinkering with the display and the stylesheet. Previously, I was using Mfop2, but that stopped working with the last Movable Type upgrade, with no response for requests for support.
I also occasionally blog from Flickr, which also works pretty well except for a bogus "error message."
My biggest dislike of Flickr is that I don't want to trust all my photos to an external site other than my own hosted domain. Granted, I'd still keep them all on my hard drive, too, but if Flickr were to suddenly "go away," I'd have a huge gap in the photos on my blog, etc.
Not that I'm paranoid or anything ...
I've yet to have a complaint about Flickr. Sure, it's slow some times, but on the whole, it's been great.
I do grok your feelings about hosting externally, but for me, it's an excellent choice.
