Dig dug

They're digging out the silt and mud that's accumulated over the past several years in the catch pond by our office. As you can see by how deep the skiploader has gotten in the back, they're going down some 7 or 8 feet worth. Given that the water was previously about a foot or two deep at most, that's pretty significant.

And after further excavation, today two new developments:

1. A large boring machine (like a well digger). This showed up next to a round pier mold and a concrete scoop. I suspect that they're putting in a footing for the aerator/bubbler in the pond, which previously sat only a few inches below the shallow surface>

2. A crew that's working on reinforcing the dam at the end of the pond.

I suspect now the pond has almost always been pretty darned shallow. By digging it deeper, they need to reinforce the base of the dam, as well as provide for its aeration. Fun to watch.
