No bags for you!

Fortunately, I'm not traveling through Heathrow in my upcoming jaunt.

British Airways PLC said passengers planning to fly from London Heathrow airport's Terminal 4, where BA is the main airline, are likely to face major delays due to problems with baggage handling software.

T4 handles the baggage for BA's long-haul customers. The airline said economy and premium economy customers should not bring luggage to be checked in but added Club World and first class passengers would not affected by the baggage restriction, which has been in place since yesterday afternoon.

[...] BA said passengers would only be able to travel if they bring a maximum of two items of hand luggage. The airline added passengers due to fly from T4 are eligible for a refund, can re-book to a different destination or travel on a later date.

So either the elite passengers get their baggage handled by a different system, or the fallback/manual system BA is using can only support a fraction of their flights, so is being restricted to the elite passengers.

I can imagine a lot of very unhappy customers over this.
