Both StaticChallenges and DynamicChallenges can be further described(and quantified) by:

  • Difficulty: The rank/number to beat to gain the Margin Of Success. Note that with hard challenges, sometimes this may be high (extremely difficult per se), and sometimes it may be low (just time-consuming effort).

  • Complexity: The number and distribution of boxes in the ladder. The distribution may be varied, and each box may mean something (a rumor learned, for example, or a bit of security bypassed).

  • Fragility: What happens when someone fails a roll (or gets a high Margin Of Failure)? Options include deleting a matching MoS check-off ("you got an MoF of -3, so you lose a +3 MoS check"), deleting the highest MoS checked off so far, deleting all of the successes, or having it turn out to be a total failure. Failures may also trigger some other effect, e.g., sending a security alarm to the front desk, causing someone to punch you out for your clumsy questioning, etc.

  • Span: How long each attempt takes/how frequently checks can be made.

  • Recovery: How quickly the challenge recovers boxes (e.g., passwords reset, rumors vanish, etc.).
