FUDGE dice are d6 dice with different faces than the normal 1-6.
- Two faces have a "+"
- Two faces have a "-"
- Two faces have a " "
These, in turn, translate out as +1, 0, and -1.
(You can actually simulate this with d6, e.g., 1-2 = "-", 3-4 = " ", 5-6 = "+". This is not recommended.)
The dice basically roll up a bell-curved variance from the norm. Usual rolls are 4dF, which provides the following probability spreads:
[1]
| Result on 4dF | Odds | Probability of rolling this result exactly | Probability of rolling this result or lower | Probability of rolling this result or higher |
| -4 | 1/81 | 1.2 | 1.2 | 100.0 |
| -3 | 4/81 | 4.9 | 6.2 | 98.8 |
| -2 | 10/81 | 12.3 | 18.5 | 93.8 |
| -1 | 16/81 | 19.9 | 38.3 | 81.5 |
| 0 | 19/81 | 23.5 | 61.7 | 61.7 |
| +1 | 16/81 | 19.8 | 81.5 | 38.3 |
| +2 | 10/81 | 12.3 | 93.8 | 18.5 |
| +3 | 4/81 | 4.9 | 98.8 | 6.2 |
| +4 | 1/81 | 1.2 | 100.0 | 1.2 |
Further, some broader chances on hitting different spots on
The Ladder depending on where you are starting from:
| Chance of very low result (-2) | 18.5% |
| Chance of acceptable result (+/-1) | 63.0% |
| Chance of very high result (+2) | 18.5% |
| Chance of hitting trait level exactly (0) | 23.5% |
| Chance of missing trait level (<>0) | 76.5% |
