Rather than a simple
Static Test, some activities require a
series of successes. This is considered a Static Challenge. (FUG 10)
This requires use of a
Challenge Ladder, e.g.,
| MoS | Degree | Ladder | Notes |
| 0 | Minimal | [] [] | |
| 1 | Competent | [] [] | |
| 2 | Solid | [] [] | |
| 3 | Significant | [] [] | |
| 4 | Complete | [] | |
The usual goal is to require the "Complete" box to be checked off. This can be done in two ways:
- A really high success can do it quickly.
- As multiple checks are made, the Margin Of Success of each is checked off on the ladder. When all the boxes on a MoS line are filled in, the next check for that goes to the next one higher. So you could get 9 Minimal Successes and get that Complete finally done (nibbling to death by ducks, as it were).
Challenges can also be further modified by various
Challenge Factors. These might add the following lines to the table above:
| Difficulty: what the base difficulty of the challenge is (to determine MoS |
| Fragility: what happens if a failure occurs, or a particular Margin Of Failure |
| Span: how long each attempt takes |
| Recovery: how long before success reset to empty boxes |
Note that the normal
Wounds Table in the
Combat Rules looks a lot like this.
