Superior position is between combatants. If the position of one combatant gives them a functional advantage over the other, the advantaged gets a +1 bonus to the combat roll. (FUG 43)

Examples:

• Elevated position.
• Fighting from cover.
• Swordfighting from horseback.
• Standing over a prone person.
• A prepared sniper post.

Only in the most extreme circumstances can you ever net more than +1 from this.

This bonus would certainly apply in cases where your position is such that the other person cannot attack you, but you can attack them (a ranged weapon vs. a knife at distance).[1]
