?)
Everyone's on the beach on a lovely, hot island. There are no polar bears. Down the beach, civilians cavort. Our heroes are... relaxing.
At least that's how it looks.
A sniper sits on a bluff with Dylan's head in his(?) cross-hairs. The
glint of the scope warns the agents. Gina dives toward a large sandcastle
just down the beach to get something that vaguely feels like cover. Lou sprints for the bluff. Dylan tries to flash
the scope with the glare from a serving tray. MG tries to knock Dylan
out of the way and Calvin dives for his tech bag to grab his camera.
It's chaos. The rifle cracks. Dylan goes down.
~~~ TWO WEEKS EARLIER ~~~
It's snowy and miserable in Boston. The group is briefed by
Mr Finch (who doesn't have a great rep in the Agency for either his attitude or work ethic) on
William "Freddy Five-Fingers" Fredericks and his new mentor, a locally-based international information broker,
Laney Benton. They're meeting up at
a local cafe called "Toulouse" -- we're supposed to listen in on the
conversation, then pick them up for questioning afterwards.
They're supposed to meet at 12:30, and we're to expect that woman will have bodyguards
sweep the place early.
We set up:
- Calvin inside as a college kid working as a term paper (and listening in).
- Mira watching the street/back alley as a civilian.
- Gina as a plainclothes detective.
- Lou and Dylan as uniformed officers.
The plan is that Calvin listens in with his tech, IM's everyone as to
what's going on. As they depart, the "cops" will show up and arrest
Fredericks, and take Benton 'to get a statement' -- we then disappear the both of
them. We'll do this on the sidewalk so the bodyguards won't feel compelled
to mix it up with the Boston PD.
The bad guy bodyguards show up earlier than we'd been briefed and case the joint... Calvin
(barely) manages to not look too suspicious. Freddy also shows up
early, but not with them. He orders lunch... expensive stuff.
Mira sets up about the same time as the mooks.
Laney shows up about 'on time.' Her car is basically parked out front,
so can be easily boxed in by the black and white when it's time.
There are a LOT of bodyguards... between the ones that showed up
or those who came in with Benton, there's a lot. Four in the cafe. One
around the back of the building. One in her car. Looks like one across
the street at the bus stop, maybe. Maybe more.
Many.
A woman with the Feds looking for her doesn't want attention drawn
to her, and the bodyguards don't help her there, so this points to her having
enemies that would want to end her work in a much more violent fashion.
The Benton and Fredericks chat. It's all rather vague, since they're in a
public place. Freddy whines about expenses and asks for more money,
saying things may 'go badly' without it.
At about 12:50, Benton gets up to go. Frederiks asks her to cover his lunch
tab. There is glaring. The agents start moving as her goons are covering the
tab. We get out, start to move in. Calvin's acting normally. Mira's walking
back to her car, "completely unrelated" to the cops action.
Then the cafe blows up.
Yes, seriously.
Calvin's at basically ground zero. It's not pretty, but he doesn't go
down (thanks to fate and his Agency training) -- he won't feel good
later, but right now he's riding the Golden Hour.
All the guards in the cafe are down. Some of them in pieces.
Under rubble. Rubble that's on fire. The bad guys outside decide that
the good guys outside are part of a "hit", and open fire. Everyone
pairs off against another baddie. Lou gets an edge pretty quickly against
the guy at the bus stop by creasing his knee after telling him to drop his weapon.
Dylan and Gina try to get the driver, the guy coming up from behind the
building, and the one they didn't spot across the street to believe that they're
really cops, but the goons aren't not having it.
Gunplay.
Calvin grabs a fire extinguisher and tries to rescue people in the shop. The
waitress gets out alive. No one else really has that option available to them. He uses the cellular channel on his ear bud to call for a special Agency ambulance ...
Gunplay continues, and the guards start to either run or throw down their
weapons. We cuff the folks surrendering and shoot the folks running
away.
We're agents, not heroes: don't judge us.
In the cafe: Calvin finds Laney, but she's buried in rubble. It doesn't look good for
Laney. She, Calvin, and Dylan move a bit of the rubble, but it's obvious she's dead.
We take her purse in hopes of acquiring an address book or something useful.
Also, Lou finds a hand (just the hand) holding a gun in the rubble.
Why would anyone have had a gun drawn
before the bomb went off? What the hell was going on here?
Outside, MG sees an apartment across the street on the third floor that's ALSO on fire? Too much of a
coincidence. She goes to check it out.
Annnnnd Scene.
