Rather than send this out by e-mail, I’m going to solicit opinions back by e-mail, and then post the results here. It’s the classic Interesting Dinner question, for you, my readers:

Select 1-20 non-fictional people you think would be considered to be “History’s Most Interesting Dinner Companions.” They can be living or dead (assume they’ll be living for dinner, unless it’s more interesting if they’re not), from any country or era. Language will be be no barrier to conversation, and assume that the individuals will be at the height of their mental powers.

(Criteria via John Hawkings, who recently ran a similar list — no peeking!)

Please send me your answers by e-mail (see “Contact Me” in the sidebar, if you don’t have my address). I’ve closed comments on this post, since I would rather folks not influence each other, but come up with the people they think of themselves.

I’ll run this until Friday, or until I have enough answers to make for an interesting post, whichever comes first.
