My notebook is once again dead. Many, but not all, files were recoverable. Most, but not all, of those missing are on backups from the last time this happened, a few weeks back.
Lost last quarter's business mail, and the last few weeks of personal mail.
They're configuring a loaner notebook for me, so I won't be reduced to virtual begging in the street, but given all that's happened and the unresolved nature of it, I can't really "move in" to the loaner. So it will be like living in the virtual Holiday Inn while they (a) see what the warranty is on my notebook, (b) look to see what it will take to get it fixed (my guess -- motherboard, since I think it's the drive controller that's flaking out), (c) either fix it or (d) do a capital expenditure request to get a new one.
Which process will likely run between 2 weeks and 2 months.
Bleah.
On the bright side, I won't be getting the breakfast room table all messy over the next few days.
