A long and interesting article about the decline of "civics" in our public education -- and some of the fallout thereof.
While the author gets at times a bit rah-rah about how things were in the past, I think he's correct in some of his basic points: in overthrowing the (sometimes stifling or homogenizing or tyrannical) social and cultural mores of the past, we've thrown out the baby with the bathwater -- and not bothered to refill the tub, either.
At the least, something to think of.
