Two interesting articles on computers and the porn biz.

Nick Denton discusses new software coming along that will make porn models an “endangered species.” And, in more detail, LawMeme looks at a recent Supreme Court decision that allows virtual kiddie porn, its implications on current copyright brouhaha, and how, looking at where the technology is already going, future attempts to outlaw virtual kiddie porn are doomed to failure, for good or for ill.

Interesting stuff. Interesting times.

  1. That isn’t going to change real porn. Computer generated images aren’t the same as watching real people interacting. Yeah yeah yeah…..some people prefer the imaginary to real-life….but there are more out there that like the real thing. I mean, if you can call siliconed bimbos and himbos real.

  2. It will be interesting to see. Most net porn (if not most porn in general) is already highly stylized and unreal, both in body, act, and the framework in which it is presented. The articles’ point seems to be that ongoing increases in the quality of computer generated images will soon make it difficult to impossible to distinguish between those images and RL ones — and that stylized nature can only make happen sooner.

For some people, knowing that it’s a computerized image will be a turn-off. But will folks know?

  3. I think it’ll always be possible to tell the difference. I don’t know. I’m just partial to real people doing real things…….and I’m not talking porn, per se. I’m not anti-CGI….I just think that most people, like myself, will always prefer seeing real people online. Just my opinion. I think I’ll run this by some of the people I know and see what they think. It’ll be an interesting survey.

  4. Frankly, my own inclinations that way tend more to the “looks somewhat realistic” vs the “unbelievably staged,” but I’ve no basis to think my own tastes are typical of the “average” porn user. (Certainly they tend to be different in most other media genres.)
