Veggie, veggie, fruit-fruit!

It’s time for this week’s Tuesday This-or-That….

It’s time for this week’s Tuesday This-or-That.

1. Apples or pears? Canned pears were a fave of mine growing up, but for eating I prefer the firmer apples; pears are too squishy and easily bruised. Apple filling in pies and pastries is cool, too.

2. Oranges or grapefruit? Grapefruit. Orange is okay, but I like grapefruit juice. It’s a better mixer with rum, too.

3. Broccoli or cauliflower? Broccoli. It, at least, has flavor. Both, though, are merely vectors for cheese, butter, etc.

4. Green beans or lima beans? Green beans, definito. Lima beans, not a favorite.

5. Winter or summer squash? With apologies to Marn, I’m not a squash lover of any season.

6. Blueberries or strawberries? As jam and preserves? Strawberries. As popping-in-the-mouth goodness — er, how about a cookie?

7. Tomatoes or potatoes? Both are only good when cooked well. Tomato sauce, etc., is one of the great wonders of the New World. Potatoes, also of the New World, are also awfully keen. Both are staples around here, and I refuse to choose between them.

8. Peaches or plums? Peaches.

9. Peas or carrots? Peas, served hot. Carrots, in salad.

10. Asparagus or corn? Corn, definito.
