The last Harry Potter book will be published on 21 July (a week after the next flick, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix). Let the bookstore-line-standing begin!

She confirmed the date fans will be able to get their hands on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on her website.

Rowling has said two characters die in the final book and fans are wondering whether Harry is one of them.

The Potter books have sold 325 million copies worldwide, have been translated into 64 languages and spawned five blockbuster movies.

This is the 10th anniversary of the first book of the hugely successful series being published.

Coincidentally, Kitten and I were just talking about the word “hallow” last night (as in “Hallowed be thy name” and “Halloween.” Hmmmm … I wonder if she’s ready for Harry Potter for night time story yet (she’s been loving Lemony Snickett).

  1. As I tried to post earlier…

I think reading them to her at this age would be fine. Her reading them herself might be a bit different.

My thoughts are that the books are written to the age of the “potter gang” in the books or there abouts. I see no real reason why she could not tackle these in a few years time on her own…or the Hobbit even.

  2. The Hobbit is on my list of read-tos (and, yes, I wouldn’t put HP into her hands to read — though, honestly, before long …).

I’ve also been reading Coraline, and wondering if she might like it.
