Architecture to Go!

On my way wandering off to dinner (a very disappointing visit to the Yard House), I snapped this shot of the remaining "bunker-style" convention center building.  Plan seems to be for it to be reskinned, extended forward, and made a bit more classic-looking than the sunken look (there's a floor or two below the level you see there, down a hill from the sidewalk) with angled concrete blast shielding and funky shaded glass pyramids on top.

It's classic 70s ugly.  I'll actually miss it.

In the back to the right you can see a big "tent" that replaces temporarily the building that's already been torn down.  Straight back you can see the fabulous Pasadena Hilton.

In the foreground is another classic bit that will be departing -- a big analog bitmapped sign, with little individual elements that flip (noisily!) from black to yellow  as the sign changes its message.  Very retro.
