- Factchecking Palin and The Reality-Based Community: Palin v. Reality – Palin’s Big Speech and the, um, misrepresentations therein.
- Putting Words in Palin’s Mouth – PostPartisan – Quick… – Yeah, Palin put on a pretty speech for the party faithful. But how much of that speech was hers? Hint — they already had the speech pretty much drafted before McCain’s pick, and had to revise it because it was too “masculine” (hey … isn’t that a sexist evaluation?).
- McCain criticized Palin for earmarks – Yes, back when he was a maverick reformer, among McCain’s targets regarding earmarks was … Mayor Palin. But, remember, she’s a tough foe of (other people’s) earmarks, too!
- Palin: Iraq is a task ‘from God.’ – and George is His Prophet? Yikes.
- Despite Saying Working Moms Likely To ‘Go Over The Edge… – Hey, look, it’s the “working moms are the bane of society” meme, now completely reversed now that social conservatives have a working mom they like. But I thought all we had to worry about was John McCain’s short-fuse temper; if being a working mom might make Gov. Palin “go over the edge,” is that a risk we are prepared to take?
- Palin’s Pastor Problems – Doubtless this will get faaaaar less play than the whole Rev. Wright thing. Pity, that.
- McCain’s Capitulation to the Religious Right Now Complete – Speaking of pastors, “And you shall know them by their most enthusiastic supporters.”
- Small Towns and Big Time Politics – I think it’s possible to question whether Palin’s experience as governor (for less than two years) and as mayor of a small Anchorage suburb is adequate to the national stage while not getting into “big city dwellers look down on just plain country-folk” prejudice. But there has been some of that, and it’s a big pouch of ammo for Palin and McCain to use. Indeed, it ties into that East vs West thing, too.
- Peggy Noonan’s “Gabbo Moment” and Reversal – Though the Republican nabobs don’t seem too thrilled about her, either … at least when they think the mic is off.
