Every day I ride past a dumpster in the back of the library; they throw away hundreds of 4-foot fluorescent tubes per year. And that's just one big building - the skyline of any city suggests massive amounts of mercury. Switch to incandescents? Sure, if you don't mind putting the mercury - actually more of it - into the air by burning coal. It's a big problem.
We really need to separate the toxic and nontoxic trash streams. (Yeah, I know I'm a broken record on this)
The writer is correct about elemental mercury though - not the huge deal it's made out to be.
I am also planning to post the 'Free Bristol Palin' piece. It deserves a lot of coverage.
