That, at least, is the interpretation by James Hartline, who blames the wildfires in California on all those uppity evil gays protesting against Prop. 8’s passage.
God keeps trying to get their attention. They, for their part, are shouting so loud for the acceptance of homosexuality, that they cannot hear the thunderous warnings of God: “Repent! For the judgment comes soon!”
Each time homosexual activists attempt to force their agenda on California, there have been raging, massive, incinerating fires sweeping across the California landscape.
Today, people are running for their lives as 800 California homes have burned down and the firestorm is spreading like a nuclear holocaust. Yet, the radical homosexual anarchists rampage upon the streets of this state demanding the destruction of marriage and family, and the establishment of their socialistic dark vision for society.
You see, the problem is this: God has plans for California in the near days ahead. Thus, these attempts to force an ungodly tyranny on this state are being met blow with blow by God. God is saying, “California shall be a refuge for America when the catastrophes come. California belongs to Me, not the advocates of sexual anarchy.”
The more that homosexual activists press their battle in California, the more there will be great calamaties in this state. Go ahead, challenge the Lord Thy God in this season. For I have heard the voice of the Lord say, “This state belongs to God! It is not the land of degradation and immorality anymore. I shall have My way, for this land, I created. And this land is Mine!” thus saith the Lord.
“… even if I have to destroy it!”

Actually, isn’t it just as (un)likely that this is all punishment for the passage of Proposition 8? LA, Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange Counties, all of them struck by fires, all voted in favor of Prop. 8. Santa Barbara was opposed — but that was all those hippy liberals who hang out at the beach; I’ll bet you the rich of Montecito were solidly pro-8. And I don’t notice massive wildfires in West Hollywood or San Francisco, or in the other areas where Prop 8 lost (map).
I don’t actually think God’s sending these wildfires, mind you. But I think you could make a much better argument that if He is, it’s not to punish the gays. But since the “Wrath of God” crowd is solidly pro-8, I’m not surprised we haven’t heard that interpretation.
I was actually thinking just yesterday that if Prop 8 were to be overturned, whether by a court decision or by some future proposition repealing it, the next big earthquake would get exactly this reaction.
Well, you’d think the wildfires would have struck *before* Prop 8, if that were the trigger. Or would have hit Connecticut, or Massachusetts, or New Hampshire.
Wow. Fundie notions of causality are way different from mine.
And, as you pointed out, Fundiegod’s aim *sucks*. (Picturing some thundergod-after-a-two-week-binge in the clouds tossing lightning right and left, hitting a schoolbus, a cow, his own foot… not quite how I picture Jesus.)

At the grave risk of making assumptions about the Deity, I seriously doubt S/He operates in that fashion.
Apparently in Hartline’s sect (whatever it is) they add “incompetent” to the traditional “omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent”.
