(The title is a line I had as the bailiff in a college production of Kafka’s The Trial. It’s just a Pavlovian phrase for me.)
Denver Water has announced its 2003 water restrictions — which, since we now are in a water district that gets all its water from Denver Water, means ours, too.
Metro-area homeowners will be allowed to water their lawns two days a week and water vegetable and flower gardens by hand any day except Monday, under a no-nonsense drought response plan approved Wednesday by the Denver Water Board.
People who violate the rules, after an initial warning, face fines starting at $250 and rising to $1,000 for the fourth violation. Repeat offenders face temporary suspensions of water service if they fail to comply.
There’s no extra water allowed for new lawns, though those are not prohibited. That issue will be revisited after the rest of the spring rain season.
In more detail, that means:
Lawn watering (including new seed and sod) permitted two days each week for 15 minutes per irrigation zone (or sprinkler range), not to exceed two hours and not between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
• Odd-numbered addresses water Saturday and Wednesday; even-numbered addresses Sunday and Thursday.
• No watering Mondays.
• Trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetables may be hand-watered or drip-irrigated any day except Monday.
Interestingly, I don’t see any restriction of actual gallons used, so we won’t have to (yet) worry about whether to have a dead yard or stinky bodies.
Water restrictions go in 1 May, two weeks from today. I have some programming on my sprinkler controls to do …
