Things’ve been a bit quiet here for the past few days. This afternoon, we kick off my Spycraft game — back into the realm of GMing in, I hope, a healthier and happier attitude and outcome. And, of course, fun for everyone.

So … things’ll be a bit quiet here today, too.

  1. Well, I think things went pretty well. It seemed like folks got into the mystery, did some good combat actions, etc. We only got through Scene 1 (of 4 — though the middle two should be a lot shorter) in 8 hours of play (heh — “three to five hour module” indeed), but the players managed to “clear the level” and find pretty much all of what was there to be found, with very little prodding from me.

    Good stuff.

  2. Well, we finished up around 10-ish, we didn’t get anywhere near getting started til around 2…

Then there was our first “gearing up” phase, which necessitated picking out the bundles o’ gear that were most efficient add-ons to what we were already carrying in our ‘standard’ load-outs…

when the bundles each contain about 15 items…

and are listed in 4 different books…

    in different places…

(I found on last night in one book that we hadn’t even noticed :P)

That ate 90 minutes (or felt like it…)

And then, yeah, the level-clearing mindset kept us working on (probably) less important bits, plus everyone playing their (desultory and/or obsessive compulsive and/or impulse-driven) characters very in-character…

and time just goes by quickly.

    Great fun, though.

  3. As you noted yesterday, the fleshing out of the scene (to allow the bloody thing to make sense) gave you plenty of further grist to churn time on.

Though, to be sure, had I not, I would have been folks saying, “Hey, why didn’t he do that? That’s suspicious — I’m going to check it out.” It’s a difference between con gaming and home gaming, I suppose. In a con gaming setting, folks try to find the target and zero in, while in home gaming there’s more reason to wander a bit afield.
