I’m no fan of the swastika — at least as the symbol of the Nazis and their heirs — but obviously the EU’s justice ministers have never raised kids, since otherwise they’d know that if you forbid something, you must make it all the more attractive.

EU justice ministers meet later this month — and the union’s justice and home affairs commissioner says he’s open to discussing the issue.

The scandal erupted last week over photos of Harry, third in line to the British throne, wearing a Nazi outfit at a costume party. Several German conservatives, socialists and liberal democrats in the European Parliament have urged a European ban on Nazi symbols. Germany already bans them. An EU proposal was introduced two years ago but failed to make headway.

Harry was an idiot for wearing an Afrika Korps outfit to a costume party, but I think the best way to combat that is to call him an idiot, not to make swastikas the cool underground symbol for those who want to defy the System.
