So, for some reason, we kinda went overboard with the anniversary gifts. It may be because this past year has been a rough one — not in our reliationship, but in everything else around us. Whatever the reason, we ended up spending sufficient that, in ordinary times, we’d be going, “Honey! You really shouldn’t have done that! Really!”

For my gifts to Margie, I had the excuse of the Nambe outlet by my office going out of business (and Jackie calling me up to let me know about it). Already significantly discounted pieces discounted even more significantly. So Margie got a fun Nambe bowl for candy and a humongo platter that ordinarily costs $500 but cost a lot less than that.

She also got, as a fan of Elizabeth Peters’ Amelia Peabody mysteries, Amelia Peabody’s Egypt, a travelogue (mostly factual, I gather) about that country at the time of the Peabody books. Should be fun.

On the other hand, Margie got me … well, this and this, both of which were on my list, neither of which I expected to get any time soon, let alone at the same time.

Of course, both gifts (indeed, pretty much all of them, to/from both of them) fall into the category of “I think I’m going to get as much joy from this as you are, but I’ll pretend I’m giving it to you and not to me, too.” Which is, perhaps, the definition of a good anniverary gift.
