Irises for the eyes

Garden is shaping up great for the year.

UPDATE: So I got my flats of plants all planted — both the ones I’d picked up at the Botanic Garden a few weeks back, and the ones I picked up at the church plant sale. Did it all without doing anything in the yard next to the driveway, as I’m unsure what’s going to happen in that space with the re-landscaping.

It’s interesting see how things are filling in in some places — what’s being successful and what’s not. Irises are doing great, and in full bloom right now (I think some will still be around for my folks next weekend), roses are coming back but not blooming yet, gazinias are good, dragon’s breath is good, etc.

Down under the deck, most of the hostas are back, along with the veronica and the salad burnet, and I filled in with mostly annuals. Got all the pots out front and in back done up, too, including some tomato plants for Margie.

Margie and Katherine did both help, mostly with the back plants. I’m glad it’s wrapped up for the moment.

As I have been working out there, I’ve seen all sorts of stuff that needs doing.  The aspens by the SE corner o the house need to come down (top half dead). The volunteer aspens down the hill need to come down, too (mostly dead). I need to do some serious hacking back of the lilacs in back, and the little maple draping over from the neighbors, and the whole back yard — especially on the side — needs some serious cleaning out of stray plants and overgrown bits and the like.

Katherine is also driving me bankrupt picking dandelions.

Overall, though, happy with where things are. Will be even happier when we get the landscaping in.
